The need for an effective bird conservation organisation has never been greater. Climate change, agricultural intensification, expansion of urban areas and transport infrastructure, and over-exploitation of our seas all pose major threats to birds.

website

Ann’s Pantry is a family run café and restaurant in the picture postcard village of Moelfre. We strive to serve quality produce, which is local wherever possible. Fresh fish and shellfish are a regular feature on our menus with crab and lobster supplied by a local company. Our meat is of the finest quality, mostly being Welsh and local in origin. In the summer our fruit and vegetables are often grown on the island.

Newborough Forest & Beach

This is a truly remote coastal amble that takes you first through dense forest, then on to the serene, sandy shores of Llanddwyn Island. Knock the sand out of your shoes before continuing up over grassy mounds to explore the ancient lighthouses and marvel at the views of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula before heading back down to the beach. Forget Kendal mint cake - pack your swimming togs instead.

Rhosneigr Beach & Village

website

If you like watersports, Rhosneigr Beach could be one of your favourites on Anglesey.   Clean sand and big expanse of beach.  Plenty of cafe's and restaurants.

Treaerddue Bay Beach

website

Trearddur Bay is situated within a couple of miles of the town of Holyhead on Anglesey. Trearddur Bay derives its name from the welsh for Arthur's Town.

Undoubtedly one of Anglesey's premier beaches, Trearddur Bay combines cleanliness with space. Depending on the time of the year, there is a vast amount of sand, and the sea is conducive with lots of water sports, including canoeing, surfboarding, and water skiing. There is ample accommodation available in the area, ranging from hotels to bed and breakfast accommodation.

Malltraeth Sands

The majority of the beaches mentioned below are sandy, and suitable for all ages. The odd beach is a little difficult to get to, but in most cases it is a case of driving right up to the beach car park. As with most places (sadly) these days, care must be taken anywhere where your car is parked unattended. Ensure valuables are locked securely out of sight. I will add to and update the information below as time allows. Click on the blue links below. If not blue, then I have yet to take the photos that will accompany my write up on those particular beaches.

Cemaes Bay Village & Beach

website

Cemaes is the most northerly village in Wales and its development has been shaped by the natural resources available to it. Cemaes Bay is an Area of Outstanding Beauty, some of which is owned by the National Trust. The village includes a natural, sheltered harbour that looks north to the Irish Sea and is the site of ancient settlements, that in more recent centuries has become a centre for maritime activities.

Since Victorian times, the picturesque character of Cemaes and the natural beauty of the Island has attracted many artists. They have responded to the sea and sky as it changes with the weather, the superb sunsets, the multicoloured rocks and sands exposed on the cliffs and beaches as well as the charm of Cemaes village.

For more than a hundred years, Cemaes has attracted holidaymakers and tourists, including Lloyd George. The main beach is particularly safe - sheltered and gently sloping with sand and rock pools - and is popular with both families and children.

Moelfre Beach

Moelfre is a small and sleepy village well known on Anglesey and in many parts of the world as the home of one of the finest and renowned lifeboat stations in the world. The bravery of the men that have manned the boats over the years has been exceptional, with many bravery medals being won by a multitude of lifeboat men.
The village is normally represented by postcard companies with exactly the same shot of the small beach and the few houses.

Benllech Beach

Certainly one of Anglesey's most beautiful beaches. Winner of the European Blue Flag award since 2004. That should say it all. Lots of space, clean sand and ice cream parlours, a seaside shop, and food available right beside the beach. Parking is available, but often gets full up pretty early.

Red Wharf Bay Beach

Winner of a seaside award since 2004. A lovely sandy and cobbled beach, which sadly was pretty much absent when I took the photos, as the tide was in. Do not make the mistake of not visiting this lovely place. A delightful and beautiful area, with nice walks, a spectacular view across the sea, and the amenities include a cafe / restaurant and a pub.

Two very nice pubs/restaurants but there is limited parking by the beach.

Penmon Beach

This long, sandy beach, located on the banks of the Menai Straits, provides only car parking facilities. Other facilities are available in the nearby town of Beaumaris.

Beaumaris Beach & Pier

Beaumaris has a small beach area suitable for picnics. The historic Charter town of Beaumaris has a large number of shops, public houses, restaurants and Cafs as well as a castle, gaol, sports centre, Royal Yacht Club and cultural and heritage facilities.

Pentraeth Forest

Children living on Anglesey will be invited to play a part in saving the red squirrel population in Pentraeth forest by planting trees and creating an environment designed to give a vital boost to the reds' survival prospects.

Cemlyn Nature Reserve

website

Cemlyn is one of North Wales Wildlife Trust’s star reserves and regarded by the Anglesey County Council as the “jewel in the crown” of its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It is valued both for its scenic qualities and its unique range of wildlife, and is as popular with general visitors – local people, holidaymakers, walkers etc. as it is with birdwatchers and naturalists.

Situated on the North coast of Anglesey, about three miles West of Cemaes, the reserve land, which is owned by the National Trust and has been leased by NWWT since 1971, includes a large lagoon, separated from the sea by a spectacular, naturally-created shingle ridge.

Menai Bridges

website

Prosiect Menai is a community project to celebrate our two world famous bridges, the rich marine environment, outstanding natural beauty of the Straits, and the story of the people of this area through the last centuries.
